"Making a difference in this world" isn't some lofty goal or feel good statement for Habitat volunteers - it's a true-to-the-core, life-altering reality.

Every day, people of all ages, races, religions and abilities come together and give of their time and talents to help eradicate substandard housing.  In the process, they have left their mark throughout the Greater Lansing Area - not only with the near 100 homes built or rehabilitated over the last 23 years, but also in the support and redirection they have offered to the extended Habitat family members throughout Lansing.

Volunteer opportunities abound throughout Habitat for Humanity. From construction labor to committee participation, fundraising to family relations, there are always places to get involved.

Some current needs:

1.Are you lead abatement certified? -  We will have a house that needs lead abatement in January.  If you have a week or some daytime available, we'd love to chat   ([ email ])
2.One or two people to work at least one day a week (not weekends) during daytime hours in our warehouse and delivering supplies to our current builds. (email [ email ])
3. Church Relations Committee volunteers to  advocate for our mission to local faith communities and to assist in general faith outreach activities. The committee meets the first Tuesday of the month, at 5:15 p.m. at the Habitat Lansing office, located at 1941 Benjamin Drive in Lansing.  Please contact Denise at 374-1313 x 11 if you are interested in joining this committee.
4. Family Support Partners to work with approved families in the homeownership program. Volunteer job description is available by calling Heather at 374-1313 x 12.

We also encourage businesses and faith-based or service organizations to consider our Adopt-a-Day volunteer opportunity. If you want to experience a "retreat" above and beyond your expectations, a Habitat build site is the place to be!
Please visit the volunteer online calendar for current opportunities.

Our Board Members Build, Donate, and Network!

Habitat Lansing is fortunate to have a dedicated Board and a group of volunteers that are willing to spend a few mornings a week working on Habitat homes in Lansing! Women of the Lansing Regional Chamber to Participate in the 2011 Habitat for Humanity Lansing Women Build!

On April 30, a team of women gathered to build a house here in Lansing. Celebrating Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build week, the volunteers spent their Saturday swinging hammers to build walls for a house that will be home for a family of 12. The crew, pictured above, included: (back row from left) Kim Langenberg, Sarah Lackey, Martha Howley, Pahoua Yang, Ruth Taber, Dave Spohn,(middle row from left) Susan Hengesbasch, Sara Kenyon, Stephanie Milosavlevski, Theresa Rinker, Alisha Wellerritter, Mary Stucko, (front row, seated, from left) Peggy Luckhurst, Cynthia Eiseler, and Cindy Erickson. Construction Supervisor Charlie Finkel (front) lead the crew.  Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build, underwritten by Lowe’s, recruits, educates and nurtures women to build—and advocate for—simple, decent and affordable houses in their communities. Check out more photos of the crew in our gallery!
