Habitat for Humanity volunteers – both on construction sites and in ReStores – have helped more than 600,000 families around the world realize the dream of owning a simple, decent, affordable home. Join us in the Habitat mission to eliminate poverty housing in the Greater Lansing area!
Construction – Rain or shine (and even snow) individuals come together regardless of experience level to improve existing homes or build new homes. Days and times vary depending on the current project. Instruction is given at the start of each shift.
ReStore –The Habitat ReStore depends on enthusiastic volunteers for everything from helping customers to arranging merchandise. Choose from one of two locations: 1605 Haslett Rd., Haslett or 1941 Benjamin Dr., Lansing. The stores are closed on Sunday and Monday – volunteers are needed Tuesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Administrative – Volunteers are always needed in our main office to help with; answering phones, data entry, and outbound phone calls.
1. Submit the Volunteer In-take Form and Waiver of Liability to [ email ], fax (517) 374-6279 or mail to 1941 Benjamin Dr., Lansing, MI 48906. If you are unable to print a forms, they are available in our office or by mail when requested at (517) 374-1313.
2. Once your request has been received, you will be contacted by our staff within one week at which time an in-person discussion will be set up.
3. Must be 18 years old unless previous arrangements are made.
Frequently asked questions:
What do I wear (ReStore & construction site)? Please wear long pants, closed-toed shoes, and prepare for the weather.
Do I need to bring tools or supplies? When you receive your confirmation, an optional list of supplies will be provided.
Will I need to know anything about construction? No, there is no experience needed to join the Habitat team!
Can I bring my children? Unfortunately, there are not appropriate activities for children to engage in at the ReStore or construction site, and it may be hazardous.
Will lunch be provided? Generally, volunteers are asked to bring a bag lunch. Water and snacks will be provided.
